Eligibility for Admission

a) For native candidates of Lakshadweep:

A pass in the BA/BSc. degree of the University of Calicut or a degree recognized as equivalent there to 10+2+3 pattern. However 10+2+3 pattern is not insisted for BA/B.Com degree holders under liberalized scheme of this University.

b) For wards of Government employees belonging to mainland and working in Lakshadweep

BA/B.Sc. degree of University of Calicut or a degree recognized as equivalent thereto 10+2+3 pattern with minimum 50% marks in part III or master degree with minimum 50% or equivalent grade. This pattern is not insisted for BA/B.com degree holders under liberalized scheme of this University, provided they are otherwise eligible.

c) Candidates shall opt as optional subject for the B.Ed. course only the main subject in which they have passed the BA/B.Sc degree with following exceptions.

i. Graduate in History/Geography/Economics/Political Science/Islamic History/Sociology/Philosophy/Psychology will be eligible for admission to B.Ed course with Social Science as optional subject.

ii. Graduates in Home Science/Geography with Physics/Chemistry as subsidiary subjects will be eligible for admission to physical Science and those with Botany/Zoology/Life Science as subsidiary subjects will be eligible for admission with Natural Science as optional subject for the B.Ed course.

iii. Candidates possessing B.Sc. Bio-Chemistry and B.Sc. Plant Science will be eligible for admission to natural Science optional.

iv. Candidates possessing B.Sc. Polymer Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry degree will be considered for admission to Physical Science optional.

v. Candidates possessing B.Sc. Agricultural degree with Bio- Chemistry and Zoology as subsidiaries will be eligible for admission to Natural Science optional.

vi. Candidates possessing BA Functional English will be eligible for B.Ed admission in English optional.

vii. Graduates in Statistics with Mathematics as one of the subsidiary subjects and candidates possessing B.Sc. Applied Statistics degree will be eligible for admission to B.Ed course with Mathematics as optional subject.

Selection Criteria

1) Selection is made based on the marks obtained by the applicant in the degree examination for part III. A reduction of one point in the index mark for every repeated chance will be made.

2) Special weightage will be given to post-graduation in the subject concerned. No weightage will be given to post graduate qualification if it is in subjects other than the optional chosen for B.Ed course. Weightage will be given to candidates who have taken degree from Calicut University.

3) Candidates (applying under general quota) having teaching experience in Govt. Aided school will be given a weightage of 0.1 score for every completed month of approved teaching service subject to a maximum of 5 points. Total approved service of applicant will also be considered in ranking. Approved service i.e. full time teaching experience as on the date of notification in Govt./aided schools is to be duly certified by the controlling officer i.e. Head of the school and countersigned by the AEO/DEO/Regional Deputy Director.

4) Those who have undergone NCC Training with minimum 75% of attendance as stipulated in G.O.No.673/04/H.Edn dated 15.04.94 will be given an additional of 5 marks. This will be added to the marks secured by the candidate in part III/qualifying degree or PG as the case may be, for B.Ed admission.

5) In the case of applicants with double and triple main subjects, admission will be based on the total of all main subjects and weightage will be given only on the subject which the applicant apply as optional.

6) No age limit is prescribed for admission.

Selection Criteria

a. 10% of seats are for the wards of Govt. employees belonging to the mainland and working in Lakshadweep. The seats will be distributed equally among optional subjects. First preference will be given to students who have studied from 1-12 standards in Lakshadweep schools, in the order of merit. Remaining seats will be allotted to the students who have studied in Lakshadweep schools at least for three years (wards mean son, daughter, legally adopted son or daughter and shall not include any other.)

b. 1.5% seats for ex-service men/wife of ex-service men/ other dependents of ex-service men/wife of serving personnel/dependents of serving personnel in the order of preference are reserved.

c. 1% reservation for orthopedically handicapped.

d. Sports quota – 1 seat is reserved for candidates with outstanding records in sports and games. Admission under the quota shall be made on the basis of the selection list prepared by the Director, Department of Physical Education, University of Calicut.

Fees to be remitted:

1. Caution deposit Rs. 1000/-(refundable)

2. PTA fund-INR.1000/- ( Not refundable)

Certificates to be submitted

The candidates should submit the following original certificates and undertakings at the time of admission.

a) T.C. from the institution last attended

b) SSLC/ Equivalent certificate

c) Degree/provisional certificate.

d) Mark list of BA./BSc. Examination.

e) Eligibility/ Equivalency certificate from Calicut University for those whose degree from university outside Kerala.

f) Conduct Certificate from the head of the institution last attended.

g) Caste/ Community certificate.

The students are advised to keep sufficient copies of certificates before submitting the original to the college.

Admission will be confirmed only after the scrutiny of all the original documents by the Principal.

A signed undertaking, both by the students and parent/guardian on the conduct of the students in the college as well as 2 copies of recent passport size photographs of the students are to be submitted at the time of admission.
