ABOUT COLLEGE

Lakshadweep, a group of 37 Islands situated in the Arabian Sea, around 400 kms. away from the western cost of Kerala state. The remoteness of the Islands has caused the absence of educational institutions for higher learning. In order to fill the gap in the area of higher learning, the Lakshadweep Administration inked a Memorandum of Understating (MoU) with University of Calicut a well known University functioning in the Malabar area of Kerala state, on 30th July 2005 paving the way for the establishment of this College of Education.

The primary and most important aim behind starting this college is to provide ample prospectus for the Lakshadweep students desiring to undergo teacher training facility. It has been envisaged in the MoU that complete academic background and support will be provided by the University of Calicut whereas the onus of providing the full infrastructure and financial aid will rest with the Lakshadweep Administration.

The NCTE, the apex body of the country for teacher education also contributed its part by awarding the recognition on 30th June 2006 for starting B.Ed. course with an annual intake of 50 students with six optional subjects i.e. Arabic , English, Mathematics, Physical Science, Natural Science and Social Science. Accordingly the first batch of B.Ed. course started during the academic year 2006-2007 and the inauguration of this college was made by Sri. Rajendra Kumar, IAS, the then administrator, UT of Lakshadweep in the presence of Prof: Gopinath Pillai, Pro Vice Chancellor Calicut University and Dr P.P Mohammed Registrar Calicut University, Now he is serving as the Dean Higher Education ,Union Territory of Lakshadweep.

The college has a computerized library and a well equipped Language Lab, Psychology lab. There are one Principal and six optional teachers and two General Education teachers and one guest teacher for physical education. A Graduate Assistant, Professional Assistant, a peon, a watchman and a part time sweeper working in the college office.
